On August 17, Novaya Gazeta reported that the Pskov City Court sentenced 63-year-old Lev Shlosberg, deputy chairman of the Yabloko party, to 11 years and one month in a penal colony over a repost and a debate about a ceasefire.

On August 21, Vedomosti reported the arrest in Saratov of Nikolai Bondarenko, a former Communist Party deputy in the regional legislature, popular blogger and candidate for the State Duma. Bondarenko said he is accused of displaying "extremist symbols."

On August 19, Radio Liberty reported that Russia's youngest political prisoner, Arseny Turbin, had turned 18. In June 2024, a military court sentenced the 15-year-old schoolboy to five years in a penal colony for being "ready to put up leaflets and fight Putin's propaganda."

In February, authorities opened a new case against Turbin, this time over "mass riots" in the penal colony. He faces an additional three to eight years in prison. Arseny's mother was fired from her job in June. A support group for Arseny has launched a fundraiser to pay for a lawyer. Donations from Russia can be made through the Zaodno platform, and donations from abroad through PayPal.

On August 17, the human rights group First Department reported that the crypto exchange Binance, in response the request of Russia's Investigative Committee, shared data on IT specialist Yuri Belenky. He was detained at Sheremetyevo Airport in September 2025 after arriving from Bulgaria and is accused of "financing terrorism" over crypto transfers for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Azov Regiment. Binance left Russia in 2023 but kept an address on its website for requests from authorities.
