Discussions at forum in Paris. Arrests for songs of “foreign agents.” Integration in Portugal.

You're watching news from the weekly rally in front of the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is October 18, 2:30 PM.

On October 11, the Russie-Libertés conference was held in Paris. The mayor of the 11th arrondissement spoke about plans to commemorate Boris Nemtsov, Yulia Navalnaya invited diaspora groups to collaborate, and singer Monetochka performed her new song, “You’re a Soldier.” She also encouraged emigrants who feel things aren’t working out yet, that Nabokov wrote “Lolita” only 40 years after leaving Russia.

"It calmed me down a bit, gave me faith that everything would come in its own time. You can learn the language and sort out paperwork; there's no rush. The only rush you have is to remember to simply live amidst all this."

We met with representatives of diasporas from other countries. We discussed representation in PACE and the possibility of such representation for Iranians. We learned that half of the Uyghurs speak Russian and that Stalin divided them, handing the other half to China, where they are being subjected to genocide. We also exchanged experiences of engaging with people still in our motherlands with an activist from Afghanistan.

At her concert, Monetochka allowed us to raise money for portable power stations for hospitals and schools in Ukraine. We brought gifts for donors from our countries of residence. In two days—across the concert and the conference—we raised about 1,400 euros.

"Mom has a secret. Mom has a secret. She taught me how to play dominoes, fixed a scooter wheel, and stood in the cold in front of the Kremlin with an indecently unambiguous poster."

Among the gifts was Marina Tregubova’s painting “Fetters or Chorus,” which I purchased at our online exhibition “NET VOYNE”, including a 50% donation to the fundraiser. I’m very glad I was able to spread the word about our exhibition and present this painting to Monetochka.

Watch the interview on the Oliva Live YouTube channel between Alexey Nesterenko, president of “La Asociación de Rusos Libres,” and Olga Prokopyeva, president of “Russie-Libertés,” about how their organization came to be, what it does, why this conference is being held, and what happened there:

At the conference, Monetochka said she was worried about musicians in Russia who sing her songs. Unfortunately, her concerns were justified. In St. Petersburg, an investigation has begun into the street musicians of the band Stoptime following a complaint by State Duma Deputy Mikhail Romanov, who was displeased that teenagers were dancing to songs by “foreign agents.”

We continue to reflect on how the Russia of the future should be structured in our discussion club, and I want to share the idea of an “Interest Map for Laws.” To safeguard citizens’ interests, it proposes evaluating all laws through the prism of interests—not based on lobbyists’ declarations, but by analyzing each law’s possible outcomes. The link to join the discussion club is in the description.

We are developing a program to help Russian-speaking immigrants integrate in Portugal. In partnership with the consuls of the Anti-War Committee and activists from Belarus, we’ve compiled a list of useful resources for those in difficult situations.
