In an exclusive article for Expresso, music journalist Rui Miguel Abreu compiled a list of 50 Portuguese protest songs released after the Carnation Revolution, from Fausto's "Marcolino" (1974) to Cara de Espelho's "Paraíso Fiscal" (2024). He shows how, over 50 years, Portuguese music has addressed politics, poverty, racism, the colonial past, war, feminism, LGBT rights, housing, labor, taxes, corruption, and freedom.

RTP Notícias has reported on the release of the film "Projeto Global," about a little-known chapter in the country’s modern history, focusing on the actions of the armed group "Popular Forces of April 25" (FP-25).

We are inspired by the almost bloodless regime change in Portugal half a century ago, and we are considering how this experience could be applied to Russia. It seems that this requires creating an aspirational image of the future, uniting people, and building bridges. A year ago, we held a conference on this topic, "Russia Needs April 25th."

This time, we would like to present the concept of a "Voluntary Federation of Free People":

This is a federation built from the bottom up: on human freedom, self-governance in communities, cities, and regions, and the voluntary agreement to live together under common rules while preserving the unity of the country. In such a system, there is no inviolable authority, no sacred power, and no political caste standing above society.

This federation respects human dignity, cultural diversity, and the history of all the peoples of Russia. Every important decision must be open, explained, verified, and, if necessary, revised by the citizens themselves.

I will quote a few more section headings from the concept:

The individual is above the system.

The law is the same for everyone.

Power is not a class, but a temporary function.

A vote is an act of responsibility.

Politics is a competition of ideas, not a war between people.

Education is the main immunity against a new Goebbels.

Technology must make life easier.

You can learn more about this concept in our anonymous discussion club. You can find a link to it and instructions for joining on the ADRL Talks page on our website.

There, you’ll also find lectures on the influence of Portuguese emigration on the Carnation Revolution by Victor Pereira and on the preconditions for a revolutionary situation in Russia by Ilya Budraitskis, as well as a recording of the conference.

Russia is not their property.

Unite, build your communities, and support those who resist.
