On August 7, Ivan under pressure from the security service resigned from his job at the factory where he had recently been hired. His support group reported pressure on his manager and demands that she fabricate a workplace violation, but manager refused.

On May 1, Kaluga resident Ivan Lyubshin was removed from a flight at Minsk airport while en route to Yerevan to pick up his approved French humanitarian visa. Border guards handed him over to Belarusian security forces, who took him to Russia.

In 2020, a military court sentenced him to five years and two months in a penal colony for two comments on the social media platform VKontakte under news posts about anarchist Mikhail Zhlobitsky blowing himself up outside the FSB building in 2018 to protest the torture of left-wing activists.
