Holodomor of 1932-1933.

Grain exports in the 1930s accounted for 20% of the USSR's foreign exchange income.

In 1930, 30% of the grain grown was taken from the peasants in Ukraine, 38% in the North Caucasus, and almost half was taken in 1931. In Kazakhstan, it was not the grain that was taken, but the cattle. The Volga region, the Urals, Siberia, and the Central Chernozem region also suffered, although the peasants were left with potatoes and onions. In 1932, which turned out to be a less fruitful year, the plan was raised by another third. In the collective farms that failed to fulfill the plan, all grain was confiscated, including seeds, as well as household food supplies. As a result, famine affected territories with a population of 30-50 million people.

Under the Tsar, during the famine, you could run anywhere. Under Stalin, to prevent everyone from running from the collective farms, blocking detachments were used. In four years, including the famine, Stalin exported 13 million tons of grain. If they had refused to export, it would have been possible to feed 25-30 million people, but the peasants were blamed for everything.

The West knew what was happening in Soviet Ukraine. There were attempts to help the starving, but the Soviet Union refused the help.

For some villagers, especially the rural poor, participation in forced collectivization and robberies was a social lift. In addition, if you don't go, then someone else will, and then they will search your place.

In order to take away grain, Stalin had to destroy the owners and make everyone workers on collective farms from which it would be possible to take as much as needed. 1.5 million were dispossessed, of which 850,000 were resettled.

There is no consensus on the number of victims of the Holodomor, figures from 3 to 16 million Ukrainians are cited.

Millions died in other regions as well. According to the census data in the USSR in 1937, there were 9 million fewer people, compared to 1926. Stalin shot the census takers as public enemies.

The USSR banned the memory of the Holodomor victims for decades. In 1951, in New York, at a rally in memory of the victims of the Great Famine of 1932-1933, the author of the legal term "genocide", Yale University professor Raphael Lemkin, named the actions of the USSR against Ukrainians "a classic example of genocide".

In Russia, the new history textbook has removed the coverage of the Stalinist regime as criminal.

History repeats itself: evidence from Bucha and Irpen is similar to what the Soviet authorities did.

In 1991, the Law "On the Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression" was adopted in Russia, but the practice of rehabilitating victims of dispossession remains unstable. In 2008, the State Duma of the Russian Federation recognized the connection between the famine and forced collectivization. The vast majority of those guilty of even the most serious crimes of the communist regime remained unpunished.
trjustice.ilpp.ru/chapter-6.html

In order not to repeat the mistake, after the regime change in Russia it is necessary to conduct a lustration of Putin's special services, open archives of both Soviet times and the present, and conduct investigations and public trials of criminals. And also regularly talk about these crimes and create monuments to their victims. It is also necessary to ensure punishment for attempts to adopt repressive laws in the future. Condemnation of the CPSU authorities can be used to justify a revision of repressive measures against armed resistance to the communist regime and recognition of the right to rebellion.
