A Brief History of the Revolution. Veterans and the Stalinization of Russia. The poem "No to War".

You are watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is May 10, 2:30 PM.

On April 25, SAPO 24 published an interview of journalist José Couto Nogueira with the author of the new book A Brief History of the Process of Revolutionary Transformation. The book, written by journalist and author Rui Cardoso, covers the two most challenging years in Portugal’s political history following the Carnation Revolution of 1974. Despite numerous conflicts, this revolution was one of the few that ended peacefully and brought about democratic changes. In Russia in 1917, the Bolsheviks initially reached agreements with various parties but subsequently eliminated their rivals. This process, known as the "Leninist method" of seizing power, has been replicated in many countries. In Portugal, Álvaro Cunhal attempted a similar approach but did not succeed.

There are around 7,000 World War II veterans living in Russia. To mark the 80th anniversary of the victory, Russia will pay veterans 80,000 rubles, which is approximately 870 euros. On May 8, The Moscow Times reported that Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan plan to pay their veterans 10 times more. Similar payments are only being offered by regional authorities in the Sakha Republic, and the Bryansk, Kaluga, Samara regions, Dagestan, and occupied Crimea.

In March, NovostiVolgograda.ru reported on ongoing efforts to rename the city to Stalingrad. Despite the risks involved in participating in such surveys, the Russian Center for Public Opinion Research found that 67% of Volgograd residents still oppose the renaming.

On April 29, the French association "Russie-Libertés" launched a campaign to support political prisoners held in Russian jails. Due to trials often being conducted behind closed doors, conservative estimates suggest that more than 3,000 individuals are detained under inhumane conditions for opposing the Kremlin regime and the war in Ukraine. The campaign aims to raise funds for the families, lawyers, and support groups of these political prisoners.
