Calls to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. Students are recruited for war. Darya Kozyreva is free.

You're watching news from the weekly rally in front of the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is March 28th, 2:30 PM.

On March 23, Expresso, citing Lusa news agency, reported that Portugal had joined 30 countries that signed a document declaring their readiness to "contribute to efforts aimed at ensuring safe passage" through the Strait of Hormuz. These countries condemn Iran's attacks on merchant ships and oil and gas infrastructure and demand that Tehran cease its mine-laying, drone and missile attacks, and other attempts to block the strait.

On March 13, The Insider published an investigation into the top-secret Russian intelligence unit "Center 795." The authors claim the unit was created for "the most important operations." These include "sabotage and assassination attempts," "targeted assassinations," and operations against "relocated Russian opposition figures and journalists." The center's geographic reach extends not only to Colombia but also to Ukraine, countries in Africa and Latin America, and Western Europe.

On March 22, politician Maxim Katz shared an investigation conducted by his editorial team on his YouTube channel. Maxim claims that a massive, centralized campaign is underway at universities, colleges, and even schools across the country to persuade students to sign contracts for military service. According to him, university administrations are receiving recruitment plans and are using manipulation, threats, and pressure from teachers and even parents. Don't sign anything, and don't believe promises of "guaranteed security," "only a year of service," and other nonsense.

Tomorrow, March 29, various bloggers on social media are calling for rallies against internet blocking, citing Article 29 of the Constitution (which prohibits censorship). The protest apparently began with the anonymous "Aliy Lebed" movement and "took on a life of its own."

The OVD-Info human rights project, as always, will provide legal support to those detained at the protests and has released a video reminder. "Take care, and we'll be there for you," says lawyer Valeria Vetoshkina at the end of the video.

On March 18, Bumaga reported that Darya Kozyreva, who had been charged with "discrediting the army" for a quatrain by Taras Shevchenko that she pasted on his monument on February 24, 2022, had been released after three years. She was 18 years old when she was arrested.

During his daily protest outside the Russian Embassy in London in 2024, lawyer Pyotr Petrenko published an excerpt from correspondence written while Darya was in prison: "I feel incredibly at peace – for the first time in two years of war, my conscience has been eased, because finally I know for sure that I did everything in my power – after all, I'm in prison."
