On October 5, the St. Petersburg courts' joint press service said the Nevsky District Court had sentenced Oleg Kuvaev, creator of the animated series Masyanya, in absentia to four years and one month in a general-regime penal colony and barred him from publishing online for four years.

The charge of publicly calling for actions against Russia's security stemmed from the episode Idoliada, released on YouTube in July 2023. At the end, Masyanya suggests that Russian soldiers surrender through the Ukrainian state-run project I Want to Live. In the court's view, the episode contains calls to desert and disobey orders.

In March 2022, Roskomnadzor demanded the removal of a Masyanya episode about the deaths of Ukrainian civilians, calling the information "false." The series' website, mult.ru, was blocked at the request of Russia's Prosecutor General's Office.
