24 января издание "The Associated Press" выпустило материал о том, как живут пенсионеры в замерзающем после росссийских атак по энергосистеме Киеве. В морозы до -10°C света и тепла часто нет большую часть суток, лифты в многоэтажках часто не работают. Люди в 50 и в 70 лет вынуждены ходить по лестнице на 22-й этаж. Кто-то из-за заболеваний не может даже до магазина дойти, а, чтобы не замёрзнуть, нагревает кирпичи с помощью свечей и пока они тёплые - греется ими. В престижных районах жители объединяют средства на генераторы, чтобы работали лифты. Но в большинстве кварталов, где живут пенсионеры, люди не могут себе этого позволить.

On January 24, The Associated Press published a story about how pensioners are living in Kyiv, which is freezing after Russian attacks on the power grid. With temperatures as low as -10°C, there is often no power or heat for most of the day, and elevators in high-rise buildings are frequently out of order. People in their 50s and 70s are forced to climb the stairs to the 22nd floor. Some, due to illness, can’t even walk to the store, and to stay warm, they heat bricks with candles and use them for warmth while they’re still hot. In upscale neighborhoods, residents pool funds to buy generators to keep the elevators running. But in most neighborhoods where pensioners live, this is unaffordable.
