On July 11, The Insider reported that on July 6 and 7, the Houthi paramilitary groupābacked by Iranian authoritiesāsank two merchant ships: Magic Seas and Eternity C. The shipsā guards resisted the attacks for two days, but with no assistance from the British fleet or the European "Aspides" missionādue to the absence of warships in the areaāthe crews were forced to abandon the vessels.

On July 8, Euronews reportedāciting the German Foreign Ministryāthat a Bundeswehr aircraft participating in the Aspides mission was struck by a Chinese laser system during a surveillance flight over the Red Sea. EU forces are conducting operations there to protect civilian shipping from Houthi attacks.

On July 4, the South China Morning Post, citing sources, reported that during a four-hour meeting in Brussels, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi responded to European Unionās top diplomat Kaja Kallasās call to end "any material support" for Russiaās military industry by saying that Beijing does not want Russia to lose in Ukraineāfearing that, in such a case, the U.S. would shift its full attention to China.
