On July 11, The Insider reported that on July 6 and 7, the Houthi paramilitary group—backed by Iranian authorities—sank two merchant ships: Magic Seas and Eternity C. The ships’ guards resisted the attacks for two days, but with no assistance from the British fleet or the European "Aspides" mission—due to the absence of warships in the area—the crews were forced to abandon the vessels.

On July 8, Euronews reported—citing the German Foreign Ministry—that a Bundeswehr aircraft participating in the Aspides mission was struck by a Chinese laser system during a surveillance flight over the Red Sea. EU forces are conducting operations there to protect civilian shipping from Houthi attacks.

On July 4, the South China Morning Post, citing sources, reported that during a four-hour meeting in Brussels, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi responded to European Union’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas’s call to end "any material support" for Russia’s military industry by saying that Beijing does not want Russia to lose in Ukraine—fearing that, in such a case, the U.S. would shift its full attention to China.

On July 9, July 22, and August 5, the day will be shorter by 1.5 milliseconds. This is because the Moon will be closer to Earth’s poles. Because the Moon is gradually moving away, which slows Earth’s rotation, the day lengthened by 5 hours over the past about two billion years.
