50,000 Officials and Militaries Oppose Iranian Regime. Final Day of Roizman Fund. Mourning in Kyiv.

You're watching news from the weekly rally in front of the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is August 2, 2:30 PM.

On July 26, Iran’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi told POLITICO that at least 50,000 Iranian officials and military personnel have registered on a secure platform to coordinate the overthrow of the dictatorship in Iran. Today in Munich there will be “perhaps the largest gathering ever … representing all factions within the Iranian political sphere,” said Pahlavi.

In June, we reported that the summit’s goal was to agree on plans for Iran’s transit and restructuring.

On August 1, Yevgeny Roizman’s charitable foundation held its final reception and vacated its premises. While Putin has been ruining Russians’ lives for a quarter of a century, Roizman has been helping them. In an interview with SOTAvision, he said it is hard to comment “because if I comment this, I'll have to call things by their proper names—and that doesn’t align with the goal of staying out of jail.”

On July 31, The Insider reported—citing a support group for Alexei Gorinov—that after his transfer to the penal colony No.10, he was placed in a punishment cell and deprived of his medications. Gorinov, who had already lost part of one lung, was diagnosed with tuberculosis during the transfer. He is serving a sentence for anti-war statements.

Also on July 31, Echo Radio’s website highlighted the difficulties Russians face obtaining humanitarian visas while being persecuted for journalistic work, anti-war statements, or activism. “They’re scrambling for protection because neither Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, nor Montenegro offers political asylum to Russians,” said the coordinator of the InTransit anti-war initiative.

On July 29, the initiatives “Future Russia Switzerland” and “Russie Libertés” published an open letter protesting the inclusion of Valentina Matviyenko and other war criminals in the Global Parliamentary Summit. The letter demands an investigation into how sanctioned individuals were granted entry to Switzerland and Europe. On February 22, 2022, the Federation Council with Matviyenko as chair, gave Putin formal permission to wage war on Ukraine.

On August 1, Kyiv observed a day of mourning. On the night of July 31, more than 300 Russian drones attacked Ukraine. Thirty-one people died—including five children—and 159 were injured.

We’re still supporting the fundraiser for portable power stations for hospitals and schools in Ukraine at the online exhibition NET VOYNE. I was recently gifted a painting by Anna Fedorova titled “River,” and the artist donated half of its sale price to this cause.

And good news: the third batch of portable power stations has been funded and is being prepared for shipment—to City Hospital #7 in Zaporizhzhia.
